TV TIPS (TUESDAY)

Four live races from 'Flat HQ' Newmarket grace the ITV screens this Tuesday as they offer up potential clues for both the Derby and Guineas. 13:50 NEWMARKET

A competitive looking, 13-runner handicap to kick off the first of four live races on ITV this Wednesday and with plenty of the field making their seasonal reappearance, there are questions to answer.

The benefit of a recent run cannot be underestimated as they'll be carrying a fitness edge over some of their opposition. This is one of a handful of reasons why Dark Thirty looks a very viable option for punters. A former course and distance winner who returned to action at Doncaster when claiming a narrow victory. The eye-catching booking of jockey Ryan Moore is another huge positive.

Physique finished less than two lengths behind Dark Thirty at Doncaster and could finish even close this afternoon, one for any shortlist.

Trainer William Haggas is set to saddle two in the race as Elmonjed aims to make it three wins in a row after finishing last season with back-to-back victories. Represents top-class connections and is beautifully bred. He's got a strong claim; however, it's stablemate More Thunder that looks interesting at a bigger price. A new recruit to the Haggas yard after previously racing for Sir Michael Stoute. A consistent enough string of runs but he'd never competed over a trip shorter than 1m1f so this drop to six furlongs is a bit of a head scratcher. His only victory came over 1m2f so it's mystifying why he'd be lining up in a sprint contest. I'm hoping the shorter distance is the key to further success so a chance is taken on him to go well at a price.

14:25 NEWMARKET

A host of potential Epsom Derby hopefuls are set to enter the stalls in this one and with promising two-year-old campaigns under their belt they all have a part to play.

The unbeaten duo of Masai Moon and Sallaal should be major players but they'll need to have improved over the winter to take the step up to this level. It'd be foolish to rule either of the pair out.

Of those that have competed in Group company already Nightwalker has a solid claim but it's the consistent Green Storm who gets our vote. He's got a string of seconds in the form book but his second in the Group 3 Zetland Stakes here at Newmarket looks some of the strongest form on offer. If he were to reproduce that effort he'd be the one to beat.

GREEN STORM (WIN)

15:00 NEWMARKET

Despite claiming the runners-up spot in last years Derby I'm not convinced Ambiente Friendly will relish this shorter distance and despite a change of yard potentially squeezing out further improvement he's avoided this afternoon.

When it comes to 'Flat HQ' it's always worth noting the boys in blue. Godolphin love nothing more than a winner at their local course and Charlie Appleby certainly knows how to win at this meeting. The trainer is set to saddle First Conquest who's won two of his three starts at Newmarket and Ottoman Fleet who's won this race for the past to years. It's hard to look past either so a bold move to back both to finish either first or second is the play.

First Conquest and Ottoman Fleet to both make the frame is what we're pinning our hopes on in the third.

15:35 NEWMARKET

The fillies take centre stage in this Group 3 contest with potential clues for the 1,000 Guineas set to arise.

Plenty of the powerhouse yards are represented with Verse Of Love looking the strongest contender. Charlie Appleby's unbeaten runner won a jam packed maiden over course and distance so we already know she handles Newmarket's unique undulations. Beautifully bred and looks the ideal type to take this to cement herself in the Guineas frame.

Fellow unbeaten prospect Nardra isn't without a chance but based on the form of her sole start it's safe to say the Godolphin charge has a better win to her name than the Haggas runner.

For punters looking for an each-way alternative it's hard to put people off Celestial Orbit. A listed winner who's form looks very strong with both the second and third placed finishers in her listed victory since going on to claim black type.
