TODAY'S TIPS (TUESDAY)

13:50 MARKET RASEN

This looks an ideal opportunity for Donald McCain’s Wallquatari who ran a race full of promise on debut last year when falling at the last and followed up with a good second at Doncaster in November. Further progress could be on the cards given the selection’s 81-day break and experience is likely to pay dividends given his two market rivals are having their first starts over obstacles. Lundi Noir fetched £60,000 at the sales, but Miner’s Gamble from Brian Ellison is taken to follow the selection home, given his experience on the flat which yielded a victory in a Musselburgh handicap last year.

16:45 TAUNTON

The shape of this race naturally lends itself to an each way play with Shearer, who is clearly the best of these on official ratings, likely to start at prohibitive odds. If the Paul Nicholls charge runs up to anything like his best he should be able to make it two from two in the hunter-chaser sphere, but with the magic eight runners expected to run, I am taking a chance on Acey Milan. Anthony Honeybourne’s son of Milan gets a handy eight pounds off the Paul Nicholls hotpot and is clearly second best on form figures. If we can get 5/1 or better, we could have a “bet to nothing” as its hard not to see this each way play not making the frame
