13:55 TAUNTON
Campaign Trail went into plenty of notebooks following his impressive debut win at Doncaster and if we can forget his last run he must have a great chance of a mark of just 116. The Kim Bailey and Mat Nichols trained ex-flat recruit cost a six-figure sum and started to pay some of that money back when slamming a now 110-rated horse by 6 lengths on debut and having a 124-rated horse back in third. He looked to be travelling well on his second start over obstacles, but something clearly went amiss as he was turned over at odds of 2/5. He is taken here to make amends. Chief dangers include the steadily improving Saint Anopolina, who got off the mark over at the third time of asking last time out, and stablemate Manuelito, who ran in a hot handicap hurdle at Market Rasen last time and looks to have less on his plate today.
CAMPAIGN TRAIL (WIN)
17:00 NEWCASTLE
Hat-trick seeking Time Patrol could give his trainer Tony Carroll his 25th win of the calendar year. The five-year-old looks to have found a new lease of life and he is taken to win here off the same mark as when winning over course and distance last time out. Apprentice rider Molly Gunn has done the steering on both of Time Patrol’s recent wins and takes off a very valuable seven pounds. Spartan Fighter could be the each-way play, having been beaten only one and three-quarter lengths here last time, and he benefits from a three-pound slide in the weights.
