Former jockey Liam Hall takes a look at a handful of maidens who are yet to claim their first career victory and pinpoints runners for Saturday and Sunday he thinks could go close to grabbing victory.
SATURDAY
16:45 KEMPTON
A very competitive bumper with half of the field already winning a bumper. Moneygarrow was second in a listed race last time albeit beaten 14 lengths but that was by one of the main British hopes for the Champion Bumper. Our Boy Stan was runner up in a listed Cheltenham bumper on debut, likely to improve on that and gets a huge weight swing with the 4yr old allowance and the fact others are carrying penalties for winning bumpers. One Knight was visually very impressive at Southwell and is bred to be very smart. If he wins here he's being lined up for the Aintree bumper.
ONE KNIGHT (WIN)
17:10 FAIRYHOUSE
Arslan is the likely favourite here after finishing runner up in a ptp, that was in May so has been off the track for some time now and the winner hasn't achieved a great deal, risky. Eachtotheirown brings far stronger form to the book after finishing second in a bumper behind a smart Cheltenham contender. In a competitive event as usual for an Irish bumper looking for the each way play might be the best move. Sticktotheplan was sent off favourite for his Irish point, making rapid progress before falling, the winner has finished second in a listed bumper so therefore this gelding should have enough tactical speed to get involved. Hasn't been seen for 300 days since that fall which is a concern.
STICKTOTHEPLAN (E/W)
16:52 CHEPSTOW
Douglas Hyde won an Irish point nicely before finishing runner up in two English bumpers, has ran to a similair level both times and that level should be good enough to win a bumper.
Just Golden was a runner up on debut when ridden cold early, was given a nice introduction and will be much more switched on this time around, likely improver. Also will be ridden by a 7lb claimer this time which could be the difference maker. Sage Green won on his second start in an Irish point impressively. The form of that race hasn't stood up as of yet but he could find improvement for his new yard.
JUST GOLDEN (WIN)
SUNDAY
17:10 HEREFORD
Bohemond Antioch brings the experience to this junior bumper, this being his third start. A second and a fourth sets the standard but it's been a moderate standard so far so you'd have to belive he'll have to find a chunk of improvement to be winning this. Our Super Six is a son of Frankel out of an unraced sister to a Group 1 winner. Bred to be smart, one not to be underestimated in a moderate looking field. Emerald Warrior is another newcomer, dam was second in a bumper and the dam was a full sister to Simonsig, could be the each way value in this contest if he can overcome likely greeness.
EMERALD WARRIOR (E/W)
17:00 FONTWELL
Cinquenta has finished third on both bumper starts so far running to a similar level in both races, that level should be enough to be competitive. Crossgales King finished runner up on his last two starts in Irish points showing a good attitude both times to run right through the line. Has since joined a smart yard to start out in bumpers with. Gaelic Pride has won an Irish point with the runner up coming out since to finish third in a bumper. He stayed on strongly that day and will be doing his best work at the finish.
CROSSGALES KING (WIN)
16:20 NAAS
A five runner bumper where a case could be made for any of the five. Black Heather, I'll Sort That and Spinningayarn have all won a bumper. Strong Link's level of placed form brings him into contention with him in receipt of weight due to the winners penalties the trio carry. Mudslide Molly is a debutant with a strong flat pedigree, could be a danger if knowing her job. Spinningayarn probably just edges it with his success and could find another few lbs of improvement required to take this contest.
SPINNINGAYARN (WIN)
MUDSLIDE MOLLY (E/W)
