BEST OF THE REST (SATURDAY)

Rory Paddock takes a look at Saturday's action away from the ITV cameras and picks out a handful of horses not to ignore.

16:45 DONCASTER

Yorkshire based trainer Richard Fahey may have more well fancied runners here at Doncaster but one of his best chances falls in the penultimate race on the card. Seven-year-old Life On The Rocks has produced two solid efforts on the all-weather recently and should be primed for a good showing now back on turf. He shouldn't mind a slight bit of cut in the ground and now off a very attractive mark and with a very promising young jockey taking an additional 3lbs off his back he's set to go close.

Former course winner Bulldog Spirit and stable mate Freddy Robinson should be on any punters shortlist and Iain Jardine's Bashful is another to keep an eye on.

17:10 CURRAGH

Former course and distance winner No More Porter disappointed on his seasonal reappearance over this course and distance nearly a fortnight ago. He can be forgiven that run and he should strip fitter for that outing. A horse to take with a degree of caution as he's not the most consistent but this race looks an easier task than the one he faced recently. Could strike at a big price and looks an each-way option.

Goldrush Kid was an easy winner of the race that No More Porter ran in last time and the rise in weight might not be enough to stop him. Poses a major danger.

17:45 CURAGH

The grey mare Party Dress was last seen winning a maiden hurdle four months ago but prior to that produced an eye-catching performance on the flat to finish 3rd of 20 here at the Curragh. She steps up from 10 furlongs to 12 today and that should see her fair even better. Of course, she lacks a fitness edge that some of her opposition may have from a recent outing, but she looks a type that still has room to progress and, with a favourable draw, looks a solid each-way option.

Top-weight Leinster and hattrick seeking Nans View perhaps look more obvious choices, but with a field this size it seems a better move to look for a horse with a bit of value.

18:30 NEWCASTLE

It's safe to say trainer Richard Fahey's attention will be set firmly on Doncaster this Saturday but if the Lincoln meeting turns out to be fruitless he could walk away with victory later in the evening.

This one mile contest sees him send the only former course and distance winner into the race and with Shane Gray booked for the ride Hashtagnotions could be primed for a big run. Went off favourite here last time but wasn't able to pay the punters back with what was a disappointing performance. Should be fitter for that run, which came after a few months break and more can be expected in the second race on the card.

Kilteel looks the most obvious threat to the selection.

20:00 NEWCASTLE

Perhaps an odd shout to side with a horse with form figures of '80-968' but Nazca might fair better than many expect. A multiple course and distance winner he now finally finds himself below his last winning mark, and with his most recent victory coming this time last year and under the same jockey, now might be the time to see him strike.

It wouldn't come as a shock to see any of the other entrants take home the victory but Lady Celia is the one to fear most, just so long as she's fit from over 150 days on the sidelines.

20:30 NEWCASTLE

Former course and distance winner King's School was well fancied when going off as favourite here earlier in the month. He couldn't deliver that day when finishing 6th of 7 but he aims to make up for that disappointing effort. Now below his last winning mark he should finish much closer this time around.

Fellow course and distance winner Starliner might also produce an improved effort with the consistent Rebecca's Girl and Cusack also in with a shout.
