Rory Paddock

(Managing Director & Chief Editor)

Meet our MD and Chief Editor Rory! Rory set up the company back in 2012 and with a background in primary teaching, he wasn’t destined for the world of horse racing editorial. However, having since worked with major publications and well-regarded companies in the racing industry, his love for racing and desire to provide a platform that’s by racing fans and for racing fans drives him to make the company a leading player in delivering UK and Irish racing content.

Chris has been one of our most long-standing pundit having been with the company in its infancy in 2012.

A proud Yorkshireman who's a dab hand when it comes to your major handicaps and is set to spear head our weekly 'Hot List' as he hunts down horses to follow each week.

Dean Kilbryde

(Senior Pundit)

An avid horse racing fan, Dean began writing for for Picks From The Paddock in 2014 and has been a stalwart member of the team ever since, covering both the flat and jumps… and even overseas meetings such as The Breeders Cup! Dean often employs a stats-based approach to his selections, considering prior key race trends in addition to various other factors when trying to find that hidden gem in a racecard.

Matt Polley

(Senior Pundit)

Matt watched his first Grand National while at primary school, and from that moment knew horse racing was going to be his life.

Matt has worked in multiple positions within the racing industry, including assistant trainer to three trainers and is also a point to point winning jockey.

Favourite horse he’s ever ridden? Strong Promise is his answer.

Matt currently works in one of Europes leading equine hospitals as a radiographer as part of team dealing with some of the best bloodstock in the world.

Luke Tucker

(Senior Pundit)

Luke joined the Racing Daily Team around the 2018/19 jumps season. A die hard sports fan, specifically football (his beloved Bristol Rovers) and racing where National Hunt is where his real love for the sport blossoms. A regular attendee of the Cheltenham Festival and at his beloved local Wincanton track. Luke isn't afraid to try and find some antepost value in the build-up to any of the big weekend races.

Kieran McHugh

Kieran McHugh is one of our resident journalists, who’s love for racing spurred him into taking a degree, writing about it. From covering big meetings to conducting interviews, our roaming reporter strives to keep the fans updated and entertained. He’s written for various organisations and has worked with leading industry figures to provide varying types of content.

Maisie Welch

(Head of Creative)

Maisie is an equine science graduate and dedicated racing enthusiast whose passion for horseracing began as a child with the thrill of the Grand National. Since then, her love for the sport has only grown. She completed the BHA Graduate Programme to become Digital Project and Design Lead with HEROS, blending her creativity with her equine expertise and gaining valuable industry insight. She now continues her journey with the Racing Daily team and becomes a valuable asset as she shares her experience and love for the sport.

Katie Gibson

Meet your racing lifestyle columnist Katie Gibson. As a teacher, you can find Katie at a racecourse during the weekends, and occasionally midweek too…after all what are school trips for right? Before teaching, Katie explored a career in journalism writing for a number of magazines and then in marketing at James Purdey & Sons. During lockdown, Katie read every horse racing book she could get her hands becoming borderline obsessed with the sport. Now there is nothing she looks forward to more than the next big racing meet - oh and having the perfect outfit to ensure she’s the best turned out!

Harriet Garthwaite

Although she grew up around horses, Harriet’s true passion for horse racing ignited during the COVID lockdown when she joined the team at her local yard, Murphy Keady Racing. Since then, she has graduated with a Media degree from Newcastle University and has built an impressive portfolio as a Marketing Assistant, primarily with Thirsk Racecourse and other prominent courses in the local area over the past couple of seasons.

Georgie McCabe

Meet Georgie! Georgie is a passionate digital marketer with over eight years of experience in the racing industry. Currently studying Marketing and Media through the DMI Pro course, she is skilled in managing social media and digital content creation. Georgie has successfully coordinated marketing efforts for various organizations, including Wincanton, and is dedicated to promoting this platform and engaging with racing fans alike.

Kurtis Gillespie

Meet Kurtis. A current Language student in University who alongside his studies is fluent in the language of Irish racing which is where his passion truly lies. Having grown up around racing all of his life he has been to every course in the land (and even some PTP tracks) and he is dedicated to showcasing the best runners and riders in his column “The Emerald Edge” every Sunday.

Gabriella Herbert

Ella has worked with racehorses since she was at school, and has worked on various point-to-point yards for years, having a few spins herself as a novice rider. This sparked her interest in the sales industry and bloodstock side of things. She loves looking into form and pedigrees. She contributes to Racing Daily alongside working with pointers and breeze-up horses.

Michael Newell

Meet Michael, a racing enthusiast who was indoctrinated into the world of horse racing through the valiant and gallant hurdler, Lough Derg - a horse that never gave up! I, too, wish not to give up on my desire and love for writing and discussing the wonderful and idiosyncratic world of horse racing. I'm intrigued by pedigrees, enthralled by our racing champions of yesteryear and moved by the emotional, spontaneous and visceral narratives that only racing can create.

Meet our overseas racing correspondent Joe Bell! Joe is from the bottom of the world, where his passion for racing grew while working for 'Trackside' in New Zealand. Born and raised on the beaches of Auckland, the kiwi finally packed his bags in 2024 and journeyed to a more convenient time zone to watch the best race. Whether it be meetings in Japan, the USA, South Africa, France or back Down Under - Joe has you covered!

Liam Hall

Meet Liam, he's spent 14 years working in different roles within the industry which includes riding as an Amateur Jockey and working as a pupil assistant trainer amongst other roles which will help him pass judgment on rides given by jockeys. He's spenty plenty of hours studying breeding profiles to assist with his time spent at the sales which will be an asset to judging the form of Bumpers and Maidens.

Daryl Lay

Daryl has spent a career in financial services but his true calling has always been the Sport of Kings. He takes an analytical approach to betting and is always on the look out for the "value play". When it comes to racing, he is definitely a bit of an anorak. His favourite racing memory was hearing those iconic words boom out at Newmarket .... "at the bushes Frankel is 15 lengths clear".

Paul 'The Hat' Taylor

(Racing Columnist)

Paul has been following racing since the early eighties when his brother joined Nick Gazelee's stable as a "lad". He is a veteran of most Hennessey/ Ladbrokes / Coral cups since Galway Blaze triumphed in 85. He also has a strong affinity with Cheltenham having first visited the festival in 87 (snow year) and most years since (All 3 or 4 days). Out of racing he is a recycling & Waste Consultant and spends much of his time talking rubbish. Paul has a current ownership in a racehorse and rides his own ex-hunter regularly.

Alan Morris

Alan has been following racing daily since the age of 10 and has written for many publications as well as running his own racing website and publishing ’50 Ways To Improve Your Betting’. Alan worked in racing administration for many years and subsequently as a Jockeys Agent. Alan loves trying to solve racing’s daily puzzles regardless of the class and enjoys gigs, quizzes and playing football on the side.

Gaby Murray

(Racing Columnist)

Gaby has spent her life around horses, she could ride a horse before she could walk. She has experience in a veterinary practice, at a riding school and on a farm, and would now like to broaden her horizons even further. She has just been awarded a Masters in Equine Science, and would like to combine her love for both science and racing to raise awareness of the lesser-known aspects of the sport.

Meet Emilie our weekly news editor and racing roundup writer. She is an avid national hunt racing fan, loves travelling, skiing, scuba diving, riding her ex racehorse Cloudy, walking her dogs and spending time with her husband Rich & their daughter Isabella on adventures in their campervan.

She has worked in national hunt racing yards and ridden in point-to-points, team chased & evented. Now she has a career as a shipping manager for an animal health company.
